kids plant & paint with works from the heart and cedar house living

How do we bring more creativity into our everyday lives? It starts by paying attention, and planting and painting flora is the perfect exercise to do just that. We invite your kiddos to join local artist Ashley James with Works from the heART, LLC and local wildcrafter Jess Buttermore with Cedar House Living for a workshop that’s focused on tapping into our creativity and using the gift of gardening and watercolor painting as tools for paying close attention to what’s happening around us in the natural world. Your children will combine gardening, drawing, painting, and writing as tools for cultivating a sense of presence.

This class will include:

  • Young gardeners will plant their very own organic flower starts (grown especially for them from seed in Jess’s greenhouse) while they explore the basics of planting, watering, and caring for their new mini garden.

  • Each child will take home their own potted flower bucket of starts to nurture and watch grow, along with a newfound appreciation for gardening. Perfect for little hands and big imaginations

  • Your young artist will learn introductory techniques for drawing and watercolor painting and walk away with a personalized 5x7 watercolor painting of violas that even Claude Monet would be proud of!

This in-person workshop is perfect for kids to tap into creative inspiration and hone in on tools to take their creative practice outside. There will be a combination of conversational lecture and garden-based activities of drawing, painting or writing.

Ideal for Ages 5+. Any kids younger than this, we suggest parental supervision.

Class size limited to 16 participants - seats are reserved for those registered. Parents may either drop off or standby (seating is limited).

Acrylic Painting Pet Portrait Class

PAINT YOUR PET - ACRYLIC PAINTING
Cost: $85

This is a 3 hour class and NO prior art skills are needed. I work with you to help you create an artistic representation of your beloved pet, or any animal you love.

After you register for the event you will need to send me a photo of your pet, or the animal you want to paint, one pet per class please. You can send it as an attachment to Ashley.worksfromtheheart@gmail.com.

The photo that you decide to use needs to be in focus, or as clear as you can get it, with good lighting. It is best if it is a close up of your pet, please crop it if needed to make sure that your pet, or animal, is the key subject of your painting.

RESERVATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL because I need to collect the images and sketch them prior to the painting day.

When we all meet to paint, you will be ready to go with your pet or animal image.

Once you arrive, I will work with you to help you select paint colors for your portrait. I will also provide some general instructions about painting with the paints, how to mix colors, how to use the different brushes, etc. I will also provide specific art instruction and guidance for your specific portrait.

The cost of the class includes all materials as needed to complete your painting, including paints, brushes and canvas.

alcohol inks on canvas: painting workshop with jen mcgill

Join us at Works from the heART, LLC, in Fall City  for a workshop of alcohol inks!

Alcohol Ink Art is a versatile and popular medium for artists and makers to express their creativity. It involves using alcohol-based inks, which are highly fluid and vibrant. These inks are made from dye and alcohol, and they dry quickly as the alcohol evaporates. Alcohol ink art can be created on various non-porous surfaces such as ceramics, metal, glass, and even certain types of paper like Yupo paper.

The fluid nature of Alcohol Ink allows artists to achieve unique effects and create layered colors similar to watercolor paintings.

This workshop is for you if you want to:

  • Create a beautiful abstract painting for your home or as a present

  • Learn secrets of working with alcohol inks

  • Learn different techniques

  • Learn a new hobby

We will start with setting an intention for your painting so you can create not only a beautiful but also a meaningful piece of art.

You will learn different techniques to achieve different effects in your work. We will help you avoid most of the mistakes beginners make and get amazing results from the beginning. You will get step-by-step guidance and all the tools to make yourself an artist.

BYOB, incredible mood, and maybe your bestie or your partner, and willingness to create something incredibly magical!

The best part is that you can create a unique painting on canvas that will reflect your personality and taste by picking a unique combination of colors and special accents.
